Hazel Crest Cops Shoot, Kill Dog During Search For Fugitive

Chicago - December 26, 2012 10:59 AM

"Kobi", a 70-pound Rhodesian Ridgeback mix was shot dead.  Chanette Weaver said a police officer told her officers were acting in self-defense when they shot Kobi. Weaver said she’d, "...just put Kobi in her closed, fenced-in yard at about 6:50 a.m. on Christmas Eve. She said, five minutes later, Hazel Crest police showed up at her door." telling her they shot her dog.

This is yet another of hundreds of police shootings of family pets, often at the wrong address and simply decide to kill the dog instead of taking a chance it *might* attack them.  Clearly it is time for Public Citizens to "Stand up" for their beloved pets and demand major changes in current city laws and ordinances.

Justice For Rosie - Update On Innocent Newfoundland Family Dog Shot By Police

PRESS RELEASE: Des Moines, WA  Date: 28-November-2012  Cause leader, Jayne Cvetanoski, and petition signatories of Justice For Rosie a Newfoundland family dog shot 4 times and killed by City of Des Moines Washington police, is pleased to announce Update #5 post on the petition site alerting followers to the latest news concerning "Rosie's" case.

The lawsuit states that the police did not need to shoot and kill Rosie who was only attempting to run for cover and hide from everyone, not just the police who were tracking her down as if she were a hardened criminal.  The Wrights, Rosie's legal owners, were out of town when all this high speed Run-and-Chase-and-Hide began on 07-November-2010.  The officers were responding to a Loose Dog Report after Rosie apparently knocked down a fence to get out of her own enclosed backyard.

For more than an hour, these officers chased "Rosie" only to end up in a neighbor's yard where they proceeded to shoot, taser, and kill an innocent family dog.  Witnesses state the officers cheered each other on each time their bullets managed to make their mark, finally killing this scared little dog.

SUMMARY:  On Sunday, 07-November-2010, "Rosie" the 3 year old, 115lb. Newfoundland dog of Charles and Deirdre Wright, was hunted down, tasered and shot 4 times by police officers who cheered each other on for their 'marksmanship' as the final shot was executed using an M4 assault rifle.  The officers conducted this execution inside a neighbors fenced backyard, letting the property owner's dog get loose in the process.  All dog owners, animal lovers, and concerned citizens are invited to join this cause, sign the petition and follow along on "Rosie's" Facebook page for continued updates about this lawsuit.
